Do DSE assessments apply to a trade business?
They apply to your office staff — schedulers, administrators, estimators, anyone who uses a screen as a significant part of their daily work. The engineers on the tools are usually out of scope, but the people booking their jobs are not.
Do I have to reassess when someone works from home?
Homeworking still counts as DSE use, and the assessment should reflect the workstation they actually use. Gaffer records the workstation location, so a home setup and an office desk are separate records rather than one optimistic assessment.
What happens if a workstation fails a check?
The unsuitable items are recorded individually and the actions required are captured on the assessment, so what needs fixing is explicit rather than buried in a comment.
How often should DSE assessments be repeated?
When the workstation changes, when the user changes, or if the user reports discomfort — plus a periodic review. Each assessment carries a review date so the periodic part does not slip.
