Let customers know you're on the way — automatically

Gaffer's on-my-way SMS texts the customer the moment your engineer sets off, with their name, who's coming and a rough arrival window. Fewer no-access trips, fewer "where are you?" calls, and a day that runs to plan.

How on-my-way SMS works in Gaffer

One tap from the job

The engineer opens the job in the app and taps "On my way" — the customer is texted instantly. No copying numbers, no switching to a separate messaging app.

Arrival window, not guesswork

The text includes a rough ETA window so the customer knows when to be in and the kettle's on, instead of waiting in all morning.

Your wording, your name

Editable templates with merge fields for customer name, engineer name and job address. Texts come from your business so they're recognised, not binned as spam.

Send from the office too

Dispatchers can fire the same on-my-way text from the schedule when they're booking the run, so the message goes out even before the van leaves.

Logged against the job

Every text is recorded on the job's communication history, so you've got proof you told the customer you were coming if a no-access ever gets disputed.

Tie it into automations

Make it part of a sequence — on-my-way text, then a job-complete message and an invoice — so the whole customer journey runs hands-free.

Common questions about on-my-way SMS

How does the on-my-way text get sent?

When your engineer taps "On my way" on the job in the Gaffer app, the customer is texted automatically. You can also have it fire when a job status changes or trigger it manually from the office — whatever suits how you work.

Can I change what the message says?

Yes. The message is a template you control, with merge fields for the customer name, engineer name, job address and a rough arrival window. You can keep your business name and tone, and save different templates per trade or job type.

Does it work on the mobile app and offline?

Yes. Engineers send on-my-way texts straight from the offline-first Android app (iOS coming soon). If they tap it with no signal, the action is queued and the text goes out the moment the phone reconnects, so nothing is lost on the road.

Is on-my-way SMS included in the price, or is the trial limited?

On-my-way SMS is part of the Jobs & Scheduling tools and is available on the 14-day free trial with full access and no card required. See the pricing page for current plan details and any message allowances.
